T his brochure gives some elements on the inspiring and technical
backbone of the initiative
Typical feedbacks include congratulations for the most peculiar
initiative and creativity
M arketing strategies, involvement, entanglement with other initiatives
are manifold and richer than single parties may think:
they are worth being talked over with a guarantee that the same
peculiarity and creativity will apply

What
is Masterblaster |
| |
|
 |
Masterblaster is something you wear on and go dancing up in sky
Your acts and senses are transposed on the structure. You feel
the structure as you feel your body. You become an aerial creature

Masterblaster
synthetizes arts and technicalities from these disciplines into
a deliberately carved and designed aerial vehicle, addressing
a new way to feel your body and perform in sky. The contraption
is flown more on an ice figure skater, gymnast or freestyle skydiving
optics rather than on present day aerobatics approach.
Masterblaster
is a pilot-centered design, where vehicle control is achieved
by realizing an integral motion relationship between pilot’s
body and aerodynamic shell. Aerobatic behaviour is over-unlimited
compared to current standards. Outcome design is a compact and
sharp mix between human and aircraft topology, character and behaviour.
A technological aerial creature. Patents are pending on the contraption
Formally, the Masterblaster prototype is a single place ULM as
far as weight and stall speed are concerned. This lightens regulations,
prototyping process and operations for this strongly unconventional
aerial vehicle
The technological demonstrator is called XMB-01.
(The actual shape of the
trick has nothing to do with the sketch on the left :-) which
is just an icon :-)) |

CAD
Model
Professional assembly and part design in 3D CAD system is entering
detailed engineering phase. Outer shell geometry and aerodynamics
is defined. All conceptual solutions are integrated in CAD model
|
 |
Aerodynamics
Flight envelope CFD analysis are being carried out on a professional
basis |
 |
Flight
Simulator
A full synthetic model has been developed and is flying under X-Plane
software, to evaluate the expression, flyability and flight envelope
of the machine on a hands-on perspective |
 |
Structure
FEM analysis and composite construction technique are seeking for
a suitable organism or people to be charged of. All conceptual solutions
are integrated in CAD model |

Time
frame
Actual schedule has fixed Mar 2005 for Partnership sign in, Apr
2005-Dec 2005 for the tech project fixing and actual manufactoring,
Jan-Dec 2006 for flight tests and troubleshooting, 2007 for public
release of the demonstrator |
| ~250kEuro |
Resources
needed
Estimation of the financial resources needed in bringing the state-of-the-art
into the flying XMB-01, lies on the 250kEuro figure for a full
professional program run by third-parties, down to 50kEuro or
less if a partnership optics is signed on with human and resource
providers |

Who
is acting in this program |
| |
|
 |
The
initiative is carried on full time as a personal venture by Marco
Testi, age 34, holding experiences as a robotic designer, a pilot,
a musician, a degree in Physics and in Cognitive Science, a patent
concerning a haptic sensorial transposition for aircraft pilots,
and more.
Marco is helped by a
team of professional collaborators for technical, logistical and
public relation purposes, who are dedicating their time and competences
on a free basis |

Types
of partnerships sought |
| |
|
| |
A
development program for such an unconventional aerial vehicle
and related flight activities is a delicate enterprise and driven
by a strong passion for what is being invented
What i’m concerned with in flying is its bodily feeling,
creature feelings, being a flying creature. I’m interested
in flying creatures technicisms, in the future of flying creatures
under a man-machine mixture perspective, a man and synthetic flying
organism perspective. I’m not talking of flying creatures
as a synonimum of airplanes: most of the airplanes I know are
not meant to be creatures
Partnerships are sought for with people and venture capitalists
who believe in potentialities for the aerial creature and aerial
dance core concepts developed in Phase #2 and #3
« Grounding » your partnership only on Phase #4 is
not welcome, as this demonstrates your interest and understanding
is not focused on core concepts but on side effects. If you are
interested in Phase #4 only, other formal and financial assets
will be discussed
I don’t expect to find much acknowledgement on core concepts.
Development program for Phase #2 and #3 is therefore carried on
a small business basis and run by a few professional minds and
actors I’m seeking for, who understand and believe in what
they would be doing here |

|
Phase
#3: MB-NG |
| |
|
 |
A few post-prototype
units, MB Nouvelle Generation (MB-NG) will be involved in setting
up a company for aerial ballet (Masterblaster Choreography Unit,
MCU) populated by highly motivated people, making their life out
of sponsorisations or R&D development funds for aerospace
initiatives |
| |
|
|
Phase
#4: WAV |
| |
|
 |
Spin-off
patents, safety concepts and HMI developed in the Masterblaster
can be invested in mass production of downrated WAV (Wearable Aerial
Vehicles), a new class of flight devices for common people market.
WAV mass production is carried out by a newfounded company or in
partnership with an existing aircraft manufacturer company |

Expressivity
envelope representation |
| |
|
 |
These
data have been collected during 3-4 minutes of simulated flight
on a conventional aerobatic airplane (left) and on the masterblaster
(right) while flying generic aerobatics. They integrate alpha,
beta and KTAS (true airspeed in knots) at a glance, thus quantifying
some sort of expressivity envelope for the machine. Expressivity
is given by really many factors, these are just a few which are
easily plotted down.
In simple words, what you see here is the deviation the body of
the aircraft is having with respect to flight trajectory, at all
airspeeds, while being flown arbitrarily by someone:
- Should the aircraft travel like a train on rails (no matter
if turning or going uphill/downhill), there would be zero alpha
and zero beta, therefore the diagram would be only a vertical
line (simply showing the range of all the airspeeds flown)
- Should the aircraft travel like a rally car skidding on ice
all the time, there would be no alpha and only beta at all airspeeds,
therefore the diagram you see would be flattened on a vertical
plane parallel to the side where the "beta" label is
shown.
So you can see that a conventional aircraft is able of "departing"
from trajectory only at slow airspeeds, while at high airspeeds
it behaves like a train on rails (the mid-top of the diagram is
narrow and confined nearly on a vertical line). Moreover, the
slow speed departures are sort of "attracted" by the
center of the diagram, which means that the aircraft is not able
of aerodynamically sustaining such departures for a long time.
The more the aircraft is flying on the center of the diagram,
the more it is flying lined up. Now compare the two diagrams and
try to figure out in sky what's going on in the other one.
Flight of the masterblaster
has been limited by a conventional 3 DOF (Degrees Of Freedom)
joystick input command, therefore not achieving maximum expressivity
(there are more than 3 DOF in the masterblaster)
For the "roll rate"
aerobatic people, you can walk away from here with the information
that the masterblaster design is rolling anything within 800°
to 1000°deg/sec at Va. If this is controllable or not will
be debated upstairs :-)). In the simulator, such a roll rate is
brisk stopped wing leveled on the horizon only by proper timing,
not by seeing. The contraption is flown more on an ice figure
skater, gymnast or freestyle skydiving optics rather than on present
day aerobatics approach.

Information
included in this page is functional to a presentation under no
confidential agreements between the parts, and is issued on a
first approach optics.
Any qualitative or quantitative representation or iconisation
of the topic in the brochure is therefore ficticious.
Ideas, marketing strategies and other information presented here
is offered on a partnership optics. If you are not planning to
enter in a partnership agreement, it is not fair using this information
for your own or third parts profit. The name Masterblaster in
conjunction with an aerial vehicle, the new flying object category
called WAV, the expressivity envelope representation and other
explicit marks or ideas presented here are included in the fair
agreement notice presented above.
